Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans with butter and dust with flour.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in milk, vanilla extract, orange zest, and juice until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix gently until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for about ten minutes before transferring onto wire racks to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder while mixing.
- Incorporate orange zest and juice until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
- Once cakes are cooled, frost between layers and around the sides with chocolate-orange frosting.
